Today, September 18th, 2024, Frontier announced their pre-purchase facilitation of 1,000 tons of carbon removal by Shopify and Stripe from Capture6.

Frontier is an advance market commitment to buy an initial $1B of carbon removal by 2030. It was founded by Stripe, Alphabet, Shopify, Meta, and McKinsey Sustainability and represents premier leadership within the carbon removal purchase landscape.
A bit about the process
With this pre-purchase, Capture6 will join an elite group of carbon removal facilitators seeking to advance rapid decarbonization across the sustainability sector. Capture6’s unique direct air capture6 and water recovery solution was evaluated and selected by Frontier’s global network of scientific experts over the course of several months.
Where Project Wallaby fits in
Earlier this year, we announced our strategic partnership with Pilot Energy Limited to assess the integration of Capture6’s joint water production and direct air capture (DAC) technology into the Mid West Clean Energy Project (MWCEP), Pilot’s clean ammonia export project, which aims to produce up to 1.2 million tonnes per year. Project Wallaby is a pilot demonstration facility that will serve as a testing ground, with a vision to evolve into a full-scale facility where Capture6’s novel water recovery processes will:
- Generate additional freshwater for the MWCEP and surrounding communities
- Co-produce green hydrogen
- Permanently sequester CO2 from the atmosphere and the facility’s point source emissions
- Manage water generated by Pilot’s carbon storage operations
What we bring to the Frontier portfolio
Capture6’s direct air capture technology integrates into existing energy transition projects to unlock new value, instead of operating in isolation. This integration allows us to recover freshwater, generate high-value green chemicals for sale and create operational and financial efficiencies for our water treatment facility partners.
How we do it
Capture6 projects valorize waste brines and convert a pure cost center into multiple forms of revenue. Our projects are comprised of high TRL unit technologies to create bankable projects that advance widespread decarbonization.
